The rubber bands I acquired suck, bad. I had recieved two of each size. I was able to get the one on the vent flange but no way was the other going to let itself be put onto the heater box. So I had some EPDM rubber (ethylene propylene diene monomer) left over from my new roof. I cut a strip out and used double stick carpet tape to hold it down.
Here is the rubber strip partialy mounted ready for the heater box. This was much better than those evil rubber bands. Time for the heater box and don't forget your stud spacers and an assistant. Mine was a stick to hold up the heater while I quietly snuck up on the protruding studs.
Another view before sealing it up. Note: if anyone needs any EPDM, I have plenty. A little cash to via Paypal to cover postage and a bit for fuel/time will land you a strip of a couple of feet of the stuff you can cut your own with.
Here is the assembly in place. On to the wiring and then hook up the cables to the controls in that order. "We do it nice, cause we do it twice!"

Now is the time to test your fuses for continuity. Notice the heater fuse is missing, it was bad. Every connector tang got a little scrub with a wire brush pencil.
FYI, part evidence.
I found two holes on the firewall just under and right of the horn relay and above the old voltage regulator. Each got a poke with the pointy thing you see to mark the spot inside under the dash.
2 screws later and time to hook it up. Red to the heater switch, grey lead with connector to the headlamp switch, and pink to the run side of the ignition. And I hope you know where the light bulb goes. Remember... it won't light up until it is grounded in its housing if you are testing it here. Hot tip... install the bulb before you install the controls. It's a bitch if you don't. I need to take a few more shots showing final install, I got tired and had to quit for the night.
